The number of Botox recipients per year in the United States is in the millions... approximately 7.4 million! The reasons for women receiving Botox are many and individual, just as the reasons many choose not to get Botox are many and individual.
Some of those reasons to refuse Botox, however, are based on myths and not on fact. So let's debunk a few of those reasons!
- MYTH: Botox is Immediate
TRUTH: Botox isn't an instant fix. Some will notice a change in 3-4 days, but most patients will enjoy the full effects by two weeks post procedure.
2. MYTH: Botox is Permanent
TRUTH: While the muscles are 'frozen' and unable to contract for a time, allowing the wrinkles and lines to relax, this isn't a permanent condition. The desired look will fade over time and it is suggested that you receive treatment a couple times a year.
3. MYTH: Botox is Unsafe
TRUTH: Botox is FDA approved and has been since 1989. It originally was approved for blepharospasm (uncontrolled blinking) and strabismus (crosseyed) in adults. It was approved for cosmetic use in 2002.
